Togo: Congress of the UNIR party led by Faure Gnassingbé scheduled for 26 February

Togo’s political landscape is set for a significant event as the Union for the Republic (UNIR), the ruling party, prepares to convene its statutory congress on February 26 in Kara, a town situated 420 km north of the capital, Lomé.

The anticipation surrounding this event was palpable as Aklesso Atcholi, the executive secretary of the party, officially extended invitations to party activists and prefectural secretaries.

In his official communication, MP Aklesso Atcholi disseminated details to activists, prefectural secretaries, and communal secretaries of Greater Lomé regarding the forthcoming UNIR Statutory Congress scheduled for Monday, February 26, 2024, in Kara.

The memorandum outlines specific instructions for prefectoral and communal secretaries, emphasizing collaboration with the vice-president responsible for the region to nominate delegates.

These nominations, conforming to the attached form and outline, are to be submitted to the Executive Secretariat no later than Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Furthermore, the Executive Secretary provided logistical details, indicating that delegates are expected to register at the Palais des Congrès in Kara from noon on Sunday, February 25, to fulfill the necessary formalities.

As the stage is set for the UNIR party’s congress in Kara, it signifies a moment of both strategic planning and democratic engagement within Togo’s political landscape.
