Burkina Faso: The World Bank grants $150 million to finance the “PACT DIGITAL” project.

In Africa today, digital transformation has become a top priority for leaders aiming to spur development, with several nations actively seeking funding to support their efforts.

In Burkina Faso, the authorities are looking to the World Bank for support in achieving their digital strategy.

The country is on the verge of a significant milestone with the imminent launch of the Digital Transformation Acceleration Project (PACTDIGITAL).

On Tuesday, June 11, the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) approved a $150 million loan from the World Bank, through the International Development Association (IDA), to fund the project.

This ambitious initiative aims to enhance the accessibility and adoption of digital services across the nation, particularly in rural areas and among marginalized groups.

“The primary direct beneficiaries of the project include a significant number of individuals, especially women, youth, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, host communities, and public sector employees such as civil servants, teachers, and trainers, as well as private businesses, formal and informal training institutes, local incubators, and associations. The project covers the entire national territory while considering security imperatives,” stated Madame Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, Minister of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications.

It is important to note that PACTDIGITAL builds on the successes of the recently concluded West Africa Regional Communication Infrastructure Project (PRICAO – BF) and the e-Burkina project.

It will leverage their achievements to create a foundation for future digital initiatives.
