England edges out Netherlands to secure Euro 2024 Final Spot with dramatic late goal

In the highly anticipated Euro 2024 semifinal on Wednesday night, England triumphed over the Netherlands at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

Following Spain’s victory against France in the first semifinal, the football world was eager to witness the showdown between these two European powerhouses.

The Netherlands made a quick impact, with Xavi Simons scoring in the 7th minute after evading Declan Rice and delivering a powerful strike past Jordan Pickford.

England, momentarily stunned, recovered quickly. A foul by Denzel Dumfries on Harry Kane resulted in a penalty, which Kane successfully converted in the 18th minute, leveling the score at 1-1.

England gained the upper hand, largely thanks to an impressive performance from Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.

Phil Foden nearly put England ahead, but his attempt was cleared off the line by Dumfries.

The Dutch defender then hit the crossbar with a shot of his own. The Netherlands faced a setback when Memphis Depay left the field due to injury just before halftime, with the score still tied.

The second half saw cautious play from both teams, avoiding significant risks. Nathan Aké’s shot for the Netherlands forced a remarkable save from Pickford, marking the most dangerous moment of the half.

Bukayo Saka appeared to score the winning goal for England, but it was disallowed for offside.

In a dramatic finish, substitute Ollie Watkins secured the victory for England. In the 90th minute, Watkins received a pass from Cole Palmer, outmuscled Stefan De Vrij, and fired a cross shot into the net, clinching a 2-1 win.

This crucial goal propels England into the Euro 2024 final, where they will face Spain on Sunday for the championship.
