Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré more than decisive in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel

Since President Ibrahim Traoré came to power in Burkina Faso, the fight against terrorism in the Sahel has taken a new direction.

Together with his counterparts from Mali and Niger, Captain Traoré has established a regional cooperation strategy that has significantly weakened the terrorist groups operating in the region.

This synergy between the armed forces of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger has enabled the recapture of vast territories that were once dominated by terrorists.

Under previous regimes, Burkina Faso experienced frequent and deadly attacks, with casualties sometimes exceeding 150 civilians in villages.

This tragic reality now appears to be a thing of the past. Since the rise of the MPRS led by President Traoré, reports of terrorist attacks have drastically decreased.

Now, it is the terrorists who are fleeing, with no safe havens left, relentlessly pursued by the armed forces.

This success is attributed to exemplary coordination between the armies of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, forming the AES.

These three countries have implemented a system allowing their soldiers to enter and exit each other’s territories freely, thereby facilitating counter-terrorism operations.

The results of this cooperation are tangible and commendable, demonstrating a shared determination to eradicate the scourge of terrorism in the region.

The example of this tri-national collaboration should inspire other ECOWAS countries.

If all states in the region united their forces, it would be possible to completely eliminate terrorism in West Africa.

The results achieved so far prove that a collective and united approach is key to ensuring the security and stability of the sub-region.
