Barcelona suffers 3-0 defeat to Monaco, losing Gamper trophy after 11 years

In a surprising turn of events, Barcelona was handed a crushing 3-0 defeat by AS Monaco in their final preseason fixture, the Gamper Trophy, held at Montjuic Stadium.

This match, which typically serves as a celebration and a preview of the upcoming season for the Catalan giants, turned into a sobering reality check.

With the spotlight on them, Barcelona introduced their complete squad for the season, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

But the match quickly shifted focus, as Monaco took advantage of the opportunity to make a statement.

Coach Hansi Flick, aiming to fine-tune his strategies, experimented with a blend of youth and experience on the field.

The first half saw Barcelona struggling to find their rhythm. The real damage, however, came in the second half.

Lamine Camara opened the scoring for Monaco at the 50th minute, setting the tone for what was to follow.

Just six minutes later, Breel Embolo doubled the lead, leaving the Barcelona defense reeling.

Christian Mawissa then delivered the final blow, scoring in the 85th minute and ensuring Monaco’s dominance.

This 3-0 loss marks Barcelona’s first failure to secure the Gamper Trophy in over a decade, signaling a challenging road ahead as they prepare for the new season.
