Niger: Seizure of a large quantity of fuel intended for armed terrorist groups by the FDS

Niger’s Defense and Security Forces (FDS) remain unwavering in their mission to protect the nation from the persistent threat of terrorism. Between August 18 and 21, 2024, a series of meticulously coordinated operations were carried out with remarkable courage, leading to significant seizures across the country.

These actions, which have garnered widespread praise, underscore the FDS’s relentless commitment to safeguarding Niger, even in the face of formidable challenges.

A report broadcast by Télé Sahel on Thursday, August 22, 2024, detailed these operations, which took place in several key areas, including the right bank of the Niger River, and the regions of Tilabéri, Tahoua, Maradi, and Zinder.

Despite adverse weather conditions, the Nigerien forces successfully escorted convoys along the critical Kaya-Dori-Niamey route, ensuring the protection of the nation’s vital infrastructure.

In Tahoua, a reconnaissance mission on August 20 resulted in the interception of 180 jerrycans of gasoline, totaling 4,500 liters of fuel. Another operation in the same area led to the seizure of an additional 54 jerrycans, each holding 25 liters.

These fuel supplies were likely intended for non-state armed groups that continue to pose a serious threat to Niger’s peace and security.

In the Zinder region, a bold operation led to the interception of a suspicious vehicle carrying 38 cartons of “Prégabaline Biogalan,” a derivative of Tramadol, a drug often misused for illicit purposes. This seizure highlights the vigilance and effectiveness of Nigerien forces in combating the trafficking of dangerous substances that fuel terrorism.

These impressive achievements reflect the unwavering determination and professionalism of Niger’s Defense and Security Forces. Their bravery in defending the nation’s territory, often at great personal cost, deserves recognition and admiration.

These uniformed men and women, the true guardians of peace, continue to shield the country from terrorist atrocities, proving their essential role in maintaining Niger’s sovereignty and integrity day after day.
