Morocco/AFCON 2025: CAF unveils host cities for the sporting event

On Friday, September 13, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially announced the host cities for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Morocco has been selected to stage this prestigious tournament, with matches set to take place in the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fez, Agadir, and Marrakech.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on December 21, 2025, with the final slated for January 18, 2026. Many see this edition of AFCON as a prime opportunity for Morocco to showcase its capabilities in organizing major international sporting events.

In fact, the competition is being viewed as a dress rehearsal for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal.

In preparation for the event, the Moroccan government has already initiated extensive renovations and upgrades to its sports infrastructure to meet international standards.

Authorities are working closely with CAF to ensure the smooth execution of the tournament.

Beyond the sporting spectacle, the 2025 AFCON is expected to be a major boost for Morocco’s economy, particularly in the tourism sector.

With thousands of visitors anticipated, the influx is likely to provide substantial economic benefits to the country’s hospitality, dining, and retail industries.
