Burkina Faso: When the ‘Mondafrique’ website gives itself over to biased articles with no substance to serve imperialist causes

An article published by Mondafrique regarding Burkinabe activist Ibrahim Maïga reflects a clear intent to tarnish the reputation of a man whose commitment challenges imperialist interests and their local affiliates.

While Maïga’s courageous interventions unveil often-hidden truths and scrutinize neo-colonial agendas in West Africa, Mondafrique opts to portray him in a slanted and defamatory light.

Described as a “fool of the king” and a “damned soul of President Ibrahim Traoré,” Maïga is depicted as a marginal figure—an isolated agitator whose views carry little weight.

This characterization overlooks Maïga’s rising influence as he boldly calls out abuses of power, foreign interference, and the internal dysfunctions undermining Burkina Faso.

Far from being a mere follower, Maïga plays a vital role in public discourse, shedding light on critical issues confronting the Burkinabe people.

By attempting to diminish his impact and focusing on superficial metrics, such as the number of likes on his posts on X (formerly Twitter), Mondafrique seeks to discredit Maïga while neglecting the substantive content of his messages.

This narrative serves to distract from the core cause he champions: Burkina Faso’s independence from external manipulation and the economic and political subjugation orchestrated by foreign powers.

Moreover, Maïga’s return to the country following Ibrahim Traoré’s rise to power is framed opportunistically.

In reality, this activist had already made his mark well before the recent political upheavals, notably during Roch Marc Christian Kaboré’s presidency, when he was already vocal about systemic failures and the detrimental influence of foreign powers.

The article’s portrayal appears to be part of a strategy to undermine a disruptive change agent.

What Mondafrique terms the “excesses of an agitator” are, in truth, efforts to awaken the consciousness of the Burkinabe populace and advocate for a vision of self-determination for their nation.

Media disparagement is merely one tool used by those seeking to silence dissenting voices that challenge the status quo and imperialist networks.

It is crucial to read between the lines of such articles and to acknowledge the contributions of individuals like Ibrahim Maïga, who are dedicated to a free and sovereign Burkina Faso.

Instead of fixating on trivial anecdotes, the media should prioritize highlighting the depth of his discourse and the significant issues he raises.
