Football/ Sergio Agüero and FC Barcelona in €3 Million dispute over unpaid wages
Sergio Agüero’s brief and ill-fated chapter at FC Barcelona has escalated into a financial dispute, with the former Argentine striker now seeking €3 million from the club. Agüero, who signed with Barça in the summer of 2021, had hoped to reunite with his longtime friend Lionel Messi on the field.
However, Messi’s unexpected departure to Paris Saint-Germain soon after Agüero’s arrival marked the beginning of a difficult period for the forward.
Shortly into his time in Spain, Agüero was diagnosed with a heart condition that abruptly ended his playing career after just five appearances for Barcelona, during which he scored only one goal.
Forced into early retirement, Agüero and the club agreed that he would only be paid for the first year of his two-year contract.
Despite this understanding, the financial dispute remains unresolved three years later, with Agüero still awaiting the €3 million he claims he is owed.
The 36-year-old is keen to avoid taking legal action and has expressed his preference for an amicable settlement with the Catalan club.
The unresolved nature of the dispute adds a complicated layer to Agüero’s already challenging final stint in professional football, highlighting the complexities of contract agreements in sports when health issues cut careers short.
Both Agüero and Barcelona continue to negotiate in hopes of reaching a resolution without further escalation.
