Togo – Bahamas: A new diplomatic alliance for win-win cooperation

In line with President Faure Gnassingbé’s strategy to diversify Togo’s partnerships and establish win-win collaborations, Togo and the Bahamas have recently formalized their diplomatic ties.

During a ceremony held on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, Foreign Ministers Robert Dussey of Togo and Frederick Mitchell of the Bahamas signed an agreement marking the beginning of this bilateral relationship.

This new partnership opens up promising avenues for cooperation in various fields, strengthening exchanges and collaboration between the two nations.

The Bahamas, a Caribbean island nation and Commonwealth member, boasts one of the region’s highest Human Development Index (HDI) scores and GDP levels, making it a strategic ally for Togo.

Following the signing, Robert Dussey emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, “It is time to bring our shared vision for development to life as African and Afro-descendant nations. Together, we are stronger.”

His statement reflects the commitment of both countries to work closely on joint initiatives, grounded in shared values and mutual development goals.

By joining forces, Togo and the Bahamas embark on a journey of enriching international cooperation, promoting sustainable and inclusive growth for their citizens.

This step represents a meaningful move toward a more connected Africa in synergy with its diaspora, fostering prosperity and opportunities for all.
