Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré on a crusade against commercial abuse

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is taking decisive steps to safeguard its citizens from exploitative commercial practices. In a bid to address rising consumer concerns, the Ministry of Commerce, led by Serge Poda, has ramped up economic inspections aimed at curbing price gouging and the sale of expired goods.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Repression (BMCRF) conducted surprise operations across Ouagadougou.

The inspections uncovered numerous violations, including the sale of essential goods such as cooking oil, rice, sugar, and soap at prices exceeding government-imposed limits.

For instance, bottles of “Savor” cooking oil were being sold well above the regulated price of 5,250 FCFA. Additionally, expired products deemed unfit for consumption were seized during the operation.

These measures reflect the government’s determination to enforce compliance and ensure citizens have access to affordable and safe products.

By cracking down on unscrupulous practices, authorities aim to restore fairness in the marketplace and protect the well-being of vulnerable populations.

President Traoré’s commitment to justice and equity underscores his vision of a more accountable and consumer-focused governance.

Through stringent actions like these, Burkina Faso seeks to promote a culture of respect for consumer rights and enhance the quality of life for its people.
