FTFA/ Chad’s Football Federation prepares for elections

The Chadian Football Federation (FTFA) has finally taken concrete steps to address its leadership crisis by forming key commissions to oversee upcoming elections.

During an extraordinary general assembly held in N’Djamena on December 14, delegates elected members for the electoral, disciplinary, and appeals commissions, setting the stage for long-overdue reforms.

This development comes after a year of uncertainty. Since the expiration of the normalization committee’s mandate on November 30, 2023, the FTFA has been functioning without a president, vice president, or executive board.

Day-to-day operations have relied solely on the secretary general, leaving Chadian football in a precarious state.

, its head of governance, to oversee the assembly.

Tanner’s presence reflects FIFA’s ongoing effort to resolve disputes, which previously derailed elections and raised questions about the integrity of the process.

Sports Minister Abakar Djermah, a central figure throughout the transition, addressed the assembly, reaffirming the government’s commitment to stabilizing the federation.

However, his prominent role has sparked debate, particularly following criticisms from former national team captain Marius Mouandilmadji, who retired from international football after Chad’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

With the electoral commission now in place, the FTFA is on the path to restoring leadership and stability, offering a glimmer of hope for the future of football in Chad.
