Burkina Faso: Rehabilitation of internally displaced persons at the heart of government priorities

In a remarkable sign of progress toward restoring security and stability, one million internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso have returned to their original communities after being forced to flee due to insecurity.

To support these returning populations, the government has committed to implementing a comprehensive reintegration plan that addresses both immediate needs and long-term development.

This initiative prioritizes the rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, including schools, healthcare centers, and potable water systems, ensuring essential services are available to local communities.

Additionally, targeted programs will focus on empowering vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, through vocational training and economic initiatives designed to foster employment and resilience.

Psychological support mechanisms will also be introduced to help individuals recover from the trauma of forced displacement.

These measures underscore the government’s dedication to rebuilding social cohesion and improving living conditions for all citizens.

By fostering solidarity and national reconstruction, Burkina Faso aims to create a foundation for lasting peace and development.
