Burkina Faso: The modernisation of energy infrastructures reflects Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s vision of endogenous and sustainable development

Under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso continues to make bold and strategic strides in placing human development at the forefront of its agenda. The inauguration of the Péni liquid hydrocarbon depot on Friday, January 24, 2025, near Bobo-Dioulasso, is a testament to this vision.

Boasting a capacity of 104,000 m³ and built in compliance with international standards, this infrastructure represents a significant step toward meeting the country’s growing energy needs while alleviating pressure on the existing Bobo-Dioulasso depot.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo hailed the depot as a cornerstone of the Action Plan for Stabilization and Development (PASD), emphasizing its importance in enhancing the nation’s economic and energy sovereignty.

He also praised the role of SONABHY in driving Burkina Faso’s resilience and prosperity through ambitious projects and strategic investments.

Additionally, the 32-billion FCFA project incorporates a social dimension, benefiting local communities through the construction of schools and health centers.

Beyond its domestic significance, the depot strengthens Burkina Faso’s ambition to become an energy hub in West Africa.

This modernization of the energy infrastructure highlights President Traoré’s commitment to fostering sustainable, homegrown development that prioritizes the well-being of the Burkinabe people.
