AFCON 2025: Morocco adds three stadiums for the upcoming tournament

Morocco has expanded its stadium lineup for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, increasing the total from six to nine. This unprecedented move, highlighted by local media, underscores the country’s commitment to hosting a top-tier tournament.

Initially, matches were set to take place in Rabat, Tanger, Agadir, Marrakech, Casablanca, and Fès.

However, Rabat will now feature three additional venues: the Prince Héritier Moulay Hassan Sports Complex (12,000 seats), Stade Al Barid, and Stade Annexe Olympique, each accommodating 15,000 spectators.

To preserve pitch quality, no two games will be played on the same field on the same day—a first in CAN history.

These venues join the ultramodern Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat, which will host the opening match, Morocco’s group-stage fixtures, and the final, along with other iconic stadiums across the country.

This expanded infrastructure serves as a dress rehearsal for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

The preparations, including the construction of the world’s largest stadium, Hassan II Stadium, reflect Morocco’s ambitions on the global football stage.
