Football/Liverpool’s interest in Ajax’s Jorrel Hato: transfer speculation or a friendly visit?

Liverpool’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has fueled speculation after Ajax defender Jorrel Hato was spotted at Anfield during the Reds’ 4-1 win over Ipswich. The 18-year-old Dutch international, a rising star in European football, was among the record-breaking 60,420 spectators, sparking rumors of a potential transfer move.

However, Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, speaking on De Telegraaf’s Kick-Off podcast, clarified that Hato’s visit was merely a personal trip, facilitated by Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.

The youngster took advantage of Ajax’s break to watch the game and visit friends in Manchester, dismissing immediate transfer links.

Despite this, Liverpool’s interest in the versatile defender remains strong, with top European clubs, including Real Madrid, closely monitoring him.

Hato, who can operate as both a centre-back and left-back, has already amassed 92 appearances for Ajax and captained the team on multiple occasions.

Yet, Verweij insists Ajax is unwilling to sanction a winter move, and Hato himself prefers to wait before considering a transfer.

With a rumoured valuation of €30 million, the competition for his signature is expected to intensify in the summer.

Whether Liverpool will formalize their interest remains to be seen, but for now, Hato’s Anfield visit appears to have been nothing more than a casual outing.
