MLS transfer record: Emmanuel Latte Lath surpasses Kévin Denkey

Kévin Denkey’s short-lived record as the most expensive signing in Major League Soccer (MLS) history has already been broken. The Togolese striker, who joined FC Cincinnati for €15.3 million, held the title for only a few weeks before Ivorian forward Emmanuel Latte Lath shattered the record.

On Tuesday, Atlanta United officially announced the signing of Latte Lath from Middlesbrough (English Championship) for a transfer fee of €21 million, with an additional €4.83 million in potential bonuses.

The 26-year-old forward has committed to a four-year contract with an option for an additional season, reinforcing Atlanta United’s attacking options.

This high-profile move reflects the growing ambition of MLS clubs in securing top international talent.

Latte Lath’s arrival signals Atlanta United’s intent to strengthen its squad with experienced players capable of making an immediate impact.

His impressive performances in England made him a prime target, and his move now sets a new benchmark for the North American league’s transfer market.
