Suspension of alcohol imports into Côte d’Ivoire: Controversy intensifies with seizure of soft drinks

The Ivorian authorities recently decided to suspend the import of alcoholic beverages until the end of 2023, a measure that has generated vehement criticism. Although the decision was prompted by incidents involving certain substances, some consider it unreasonable.

The strict application of the ban has forced retailers to comply with orders, despite a significant drop in turnover.

Investigations have revealed that, as well as suffering a drop in sales, retailers are facing additional challenges, including the seizure of their stocks of non-alcoholic drinks that do not contain caffeine taurine by agents.

Are these agents acting under legal orders, or is it simply sabotage?

Faced with this situation, the Ivorian authorities are being called upon to react. The act is widely regarded as unjust and excessive, prompting a call for immediate action from the relevant authorities.
