Burkina Faso: Official launch of paving works in the Presidential initiative for community development in Ouaga

The works under the Presidential Initiative for Community Development were officially inaugurated in the SOCOGIB neighborhood of Wayalghin, in the fifth district of the municipality of Ouagadougou. The project, focusing on paving the neighborhood, was warmly welcomed by the local population.

The Women’s Association of the SOCOGIB neighborhood of Wayalghin responded positively to the call of the Transition President, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, by committing to enhance the skills of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through training in the technique of manufacturing and laying paving stones.

This initiative also includes paving certain previously impassable roads. The financial contribution of the Association is estimated at around fourteen million (14,000,000) CFA francs, or one hundred thousand (100,000) CFA francs per household, according to the president of the Association, Mrs. Ténin HEMA, who expressed gratitude to the Head of State for targeting their community project.

The paving works will take place in two phases, according to the Director General of Municipal Technical Services, Mr. Arzouma ZOMBRE.

The first phase will involve excavation over 900 linear meters, with a width of 7 meters.

The second phase will include the actual laying of the paving stones, a task that will be carried out by the trained women and residents of the neighborhood in the production and laying of paving stones.

Mr. Maurice KONATE, President of the Special Delegation of Ouagadougou, officially launched the works and called on each social group to take ownership of and support this initiative through constant mobilization.

He emphasized that the success of this project will significantly contribute to improving the living conditions in the neighborhoods.

The Presidential Initiative for Community Development, initiated in August 2023, is overseen by the National Office for Major Projects of the Presidency of Burkina Faso. According to the Executive Director, Sanbé Yannick SOMDA, it encourages grassroots populations to address their development issues, thereby creating patriotic initiatives to promote self-reliance among the Burkinabe people.
