Real Madrid triumphs in Thrilling Spanish Super Cup derby against Atlético

In a thrilling encounter in Riyadh, the first semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup saw Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid face off in an intense derby. On January 10th, the Whites secured their spot in the final after a gripping battle.

Despite Real Madrid’s status as the La Liga leader, Atlético, the only team to have beaten them so far, posed a significant challenge.

The match kicked off with Hermoso scoring for Atlético in the 6th minute, followed by Rudiger leveling the score.

Mendy then gave Real Madrid the lead before Griezmann equalized just before halftime, resulting in a 2-2 score at the break.

The second half saw both teams exhibiting some caution, but goals continued to flow.

A questionable move by Kepa forced Rudiger to score an own goal, giving Atlético a temporary advantage. Yet, Carlo Ancelotti’s side managed to equalize, forcing the game into extra time.

The Saudi fans were treated to 30 minutes of pure excitement as the score remained 3-3.

In the second period of extra time, Real Madrid took control, with Brahimi Diaz scoring the fifth goal and securing their place in the final.

Savic’s own goal further sealed the victory. A total of eight goals were scored in this thrilling encounter, propelling the Whites to the final, where they will face the winner between Barcelona and Osasuna.
