Senegal’s Controversial Exit: Krépin Diatta’s strong words amidst allegations of corruption and VAR controversy

The elimination of Senegal in the round of 16 against Ivory Coast left a bitter taste, particularly for Monaco player Krépin Diatta. After the defeat, Diatta chose to speak candidly, leveling serious accusations against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Ivorian team.

Despite being the reigning champions, the Lions of Teranga had to relinquish their crown, losing 1-1 before succumbing 4-5 in the penalty shootout.

On the sidelines of the match, Krépin Diatta openly criticized CAF officials, branding them as «corrupt» and urging them to keep the Africa Cup trophy.

He emphasized a clear penalty not awarded to Ismaila Sarr, condemning the refusal to use VAR in a crucial situation.

Diatta expressed his dismay at an arbitral decision that, in his view, had significant repercussions for the entire country.

However, it is noteworthy that Senegal could have been reduced to ten players as early as the 9th minute due to a controversial tackle by Sadio Mané, which could have warranted a red card.

The controversy surrounding the match reflects the deep frustration of the Senegalese team with this premature elimination.

Diatta’s statements underscore the palpable tensions and strong emotions that often accompany disappointing outcomes in the world of football.
