Africa: The Alliance of Sahel States’ anti-terrorism coalition strikes hard

Last February, a meeting in Niamey saw the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) strategize on coordinating security efforts across three countries, aiming to stabilize the tri-border area through shared security measures. The joint force of AES member countries is now operational, addressing the region’s security challenges comprehensively.

The proactive leadership displayed by AES member nations in forming a united force against security threats showcases exemplary responsibility in tackling regional challenges head-on.

Recent joint operations by the armed forces of AES member countries have yielded significant successes against terrorist groups. Several of these groups have been neutralized, and crucial logistical bases in border areas have been destroyed.

These operations, conducted with aerial support from partner countries, have effectively dismantled a major logistical hub, indicating heightened military activities aimed at destabilizing terrorist networks in the border region.

The AES joint force’s mission extends beyond counter-terrorism efforts; it also prioritizes protecting civilian populations from violence and atrocities perpetrated by terrorist groups, a crucial commitment for restoring trust and stability in the region.

The collective effort of the Alliance  of Sahel States joint force represents a remarkable and essential response to the region’s security challenges.

It underscores strong regional solidarity among AES member countries, united in their common commitment to combat terrorism and promote peace and security in the region.
