Mali: AES women meet Colonel Assimi GOÏTA on the occasion of Pan-African Women’s Day

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, President of the Transition in Mali, welcomed a delegation of Ministers responsible for Women’s Promotion from the member countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and Guinea Conakry.

The meeting, held at Koulouba, coincided with the celebrations of Pan-African Women’s Day.

The delegation included :

  • Dr. COULIBALY Mariam MAIGA, Minister of Women’s Promotion, Child, and Family Affairs of Mali.
  • Nandy Somé DIALLO, Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender, and Family Affairs of Burkina Faso.
  • Med. Colonel Major Garba HAKIMI, Minister of Public Health, Population, and Social Affairs of Niger.
  • Charlotte DAFFE, Minister of Women’s Promotion, Childhood, and Vulnerable Persons of Guinea.

The gathering provided the ministers an opportunity to discuss a range of issues related to the promotion of women’s and children’s rights, and the fight against gender inequalities in the Sahel region and Guinea.

 

The talks also focused on regional cooperation strategies to enhance initiatives for women’s empowerment and the protection of vulnerable populations.

 

Pan-African Women’s Day is an annual event celebrating the achievements and contributions of African women in various fields.

 

It also serves as a platform to address ongoing challenges and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment across the continent.

 

Colonel Assimi GOÏTA reaffirmed the Malian government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the status of women and children.

 

He emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation to address common challenges and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

 

The ministers expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of such meetings for exchanging experiences and strengthening solidarity among AES member countries and Guinea.

 

They agreed to continue their concerted efforts to improve policies and programs in favor of women and children in their respective countries.
