Togo / Access to drinking water: the country is undergoing a major transformation under the presidency of H.E. Mr Faure Gnassingbé

Under the leadership of H.E. Faure Gnassingbé, Togo has made significant strides in improving access to clean drinking water, reflecting a determined effort to enhance the living conditions of its citizens.

Over the past decade, the country has seen a remarkable increase in its potable water coverage, especially in rural areas.

The coverage rate in these regions has surged from 47.7% in 2014 to an impressive 74.4% in 2023.

This progress can be attributed to the implementation of key initiatives such as the Basic Social Sectors Support Program (PASSCO) and the Urban and Semi-Urban Water Health Support Project (PASH-MUT), which have been instrumental in expanding and strengthening the water distribution network.

In urban and semi-urban areas, the results are equally notable. The government has significantly ramped up investments to improve access to potable water, enabling more households to benefit from this essential resource and contributing to a better quality of life.

These initiatives reflect a coherent and sustainable strategy aimed at meeting the growing water needs of the Togolese population, which is crucial for the country’s socio-economic development.

This positive momentum aligns with a broader sustainable development framework, where access to clean water is not just considered a necessity but a fundamental human right.

The Togolese government, driven by President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision, continues to collaborate closely with technical and financial partners to achieve even more ambitious goals, ensuring optimal water coverage across the nation.

These ongoing efforts underscore a strong commitment to improving the living conditions of the population, particularly the most vulnerable, and highlight President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision for a prosperous and equitable Togo.
