Togo / President Faure Gnassingbé: A security and social response to stem the terrorist threat in the north of the country

Facing the escalating threat of terrorism in northern Togo, a region bordering the Sahel, President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé has implemented robust strategies aimed at securing the nation’s stability. Aware of the challenges posed by insecurity in this volatile area, the Togolese government has taken decisive actions to protect its citizens and safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.

Operation “Koundjouaré”: A Military response to terrorism

Among the government’s key initiatives, Operation “Koundjouaré” stands out as a formidable military response to neutralize terrorist groups operating in the northern regions.

This operation has bolstered the presence of security forces in the most vulnerable areas, effectively deterring armed group incursions and restoring a sense of security for local residents.

The heightened military presence has been crucial in countering the terrorist threat and stabilizing the region.

The Social dimension: The emergency Program for the Savanes Region (PURS)

In tandem with military efforts, the Togolese government has launched the “Emergency Program for the Savanes Region” (PURS), a social initiative aimed at addressing the underlying causes of extremism.

This program focuses on improving living conditions for local populations by investing in infrastructure, education, and healthcare services.

By enhancing the resilience of communities, the program seeks to reduce their vulnerability to extremist influences, providing a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism.

A holistic strategy for peace and stability

President Gnassingbé’s approach, which integrates both security measures and development initiatives, has proven to be a model of resilience in the face of terrorism.

His administration’s coordinated actions underscore a commitment to maintaining peace and security in Togo while addressing the root causes of terrorism through military and socio-economic solutions.

Through these efforts, President Gnassingbé reaffirms his dedication to ensuring the safety of the Togolese people and the stability of the nation.
