Football/ Champions League quarterfinals take shape after thrilling second legs

The UEFA Champions League 2024/2025 round of 16 delivered high-stakes drama as four teams secured their spots in the quarterfinals. FC Barcelona continued their dominant form, defeating Benfica 3-1 on aggregate after a 1-0 first-leg victory and a commanding 3-1 win in the return leg.

 

Meanwhile, the clash between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain remains on a knife-edge, with both teams tied 1-1 on aggregate after two tightly contested matches, forcing the tie into extra time.

 

Bayern Munich showcased their strength with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, adding to their 3-0 first-leg triumph, sealing a 5-0 aggregate win.

 

Inter Milan also advanced, edging past Feyenoord 4-1 on aggregate after a 2-1 second-leg victory, following their 2-0 win in the first leg.

 

The quarterfinal matchups are now set, with Bayern Munich set to face Inter Milan in a heavyweight showdown.

 

PSG who defeated Liverpool will take on either Club Brugge or Aston Villa, who trail 3-1 after the first leg. Barcelona, meanwhile, awaits the outcome of the Lille vs. Borussia Dortmund tie, which remains finely balanced at 1-1.

 

As the competition intensifies, the road to the final promises more electrifying encounters, with Europe’s elite clubs battling for continental glory.
