Football/UEFA Nations League A: Ten-man Spain defeats Switzerland in an epic match

Spain overcame an early red card to claim an impressive 4-1 victory over Switzerland in their Nations League Group A4 match on Sunday. Despite being reduced to 10 men, a resilient Spanish side dominated the match, with Fabian Ruiz playing a starring role by scoring twice.

Spain took control of the game early, finding the back of the net twice within the first 13 minutes through Joselu and Ruiz.

Their early dominance was shaken when defender Robin Le Normand was shown a straight red card in the 20th minute for a foul on Breel Embolo.

Switzerland seized the opportunity to fight back, as Zeki Amdouni reduced the deficit just before half-time.

The hosts pressed for an equalizer, but Spain’s solid defense and sharp counter-attacks proved decisive.

In the final minutes, Ruiz scored his second goal of the game, followed by Ferran Torres adding a fourth to put the result beyond doubt.

Switzerland, who now sit at the bottom of the group after back-to-back losses, will rue their missed chances, including two disallowed goals and a denied penalty appeal.

Defender Manuel Akanji expressed disappointment in his side’s defensive errors, which left them vulnerable to Spain’s counter-attacks.

With this victory, Spain bounces back from their goalless draw against Serbia in the opener, while Switzerland remains winless in the competition.
