Burkina Faso/Justice: President Ibrahim TRAORE continues his fight for fair and responsible justice

Committed to making justice a cornerstone for safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all citizens while strengthening the rule of law, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, continues to lead significant reforms in the judicial sector.

These efforts aim to promote peace, social cohesion, and the development of a fairer justice system. As part of this reform agenda, numerous legal texts have been revised, with others currently undergoing review.

One notable reform involves the judicial organization framework, which saw a new draft law approved during the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

This proposed legislation will soon be submitted for review and approval by the Transitional Legislative Assembly.

The draft law introduces key innovations designed to ensure a more accessible and equitable justice system.

Among its major provisions is the establishment of labor courts in all 27 High Courts across the country, addressing the urgent need for accessible legal services for Burkinabe citizens.

Another notable inclusion is the incorporation of “flagrant crime” procedures, aimed at expediting the handling of cases and reducing delays in the judicial process.

These changes align with public expectations, particularly from those seeking timely justice for grievances.

Additional transformative measures within the draft law are also set to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and protective capacity of Burkina Faso’s justice system.

According to the government, these reforms will ultimately make the country’s judicial framework more effective and better equipped to uphold the rights and freedoms of its people.
