Football/ Galatasaray: Didier Drogba defends Mourinho amid racism allegations

Didier Drogba has come to the defense of his former Chelsea manager, José Mourinho, following accusations of racism from Turkish club Galatasaray. The controversy arose after Mourinho, now managing Fenerbahçe, described Galatasaray’s bench as “jumping like monkeys” during a tense Istanbul derby. Galatasaray labelled the remarks as “racist statements,” sparking widespread debate.

Drogba, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea and briefly for Galatasaray, took to social media to express his unwavering support.

“I’ve known José for 25 years, and he is not a racist,” the Ivorian legend wrote. “History, both past and recent, proves it. How can my ‘Dad’ be a racist? Come on, guys.”

The former striker emphasized the intensity of football rivalries, acknowledging the passion that often fuels heated exchanges. However, he firmly rejected any suggestion that Mourinho’s comments were racially motivated.

Mourinho, who has managed top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, has faced criticism in Turkey for his outspoken remarks about referees and the league.

Despite this, sources close to the Portuguese coach say he is considering legal action against the allegations, citing his long history of working with black players as evidence of his character.

As the debate continues, Drogba’s public backing adds a significant voice to Mourinho’s defense, highlighting the deep respect and loyalty between the two football icons.
