AES Confederation: The Presidency under General Assimi GOÏTA takes stock of achievements

As his term nears its end, General Assimi Goïta, the current president of the AES Confederation, has reviewed the progress made under the three core pillars of the Alliance: Defense and Security, Diplomacy, and Development. Under Mali’s leadership, significant strides have been achieved across these areas, according to the assessment.
In the realm of security, authorities highlight the successful deployment of a joint force comprising troops from Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, currently standing at 5,000 personnel.
This collaborative effort has already yielded measurable results on the ground, with operations effectively countering threats.
Additionally, mechanisms have been established to foster the sharing of expertise and the pooling of resources among the defense forces of the three AES nations, further strengthening their collective capabilities.
On the diplomatic front, Mali’s leadership has expressed satisfaction with the growing prominence of the AES on the global stage. Key initiatives, such as the adoption of a unified flag, logo, and shared passport, have bolstered the Alliance’s identity.
Strategic partnerships have also been forged, enhancing international cooperation among member states. The young Sahelian organization has further demonstrated its commitment to diplomatic unity, presenting a cohesive front in its engagements.
In terms of development, Malian authorities have reported the completion of plans for a confederal levy within the AES, designed to fund joint development projects.
A major milestone in this regard is the upcoming establishment of the AES Confederation Investment and Development Bank, which will be launched with an initial capital of 500 billion CFA francs.
This initiative aims to drive economic growth and infrastructure development across the member states.
Significant progress has also been made in the area of trade. A unified AES Customs Code has been developed to streamline the movement of goods and pave the way for a single customs territory. Ambitious infrastructure projects are in the pipeline, including the creation of an AES railway network and a shared airline, which are expected to enhance connectivity and economic integration within the region.
These efforts underscore the Alliance’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and regional cooperation.
