Burkina Faso’s military expands role from security to citizen empowerment

In Falagountou department within the Sahel region, Burkina Faso’s armed forces have trained 500 women in soap production, providing them with sustainable income through this revenue-generating activity .
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening citizen resilience – particularly in high-risk areas – against terrorist recruitment by reducing economic vulnerability and enabling dignified livelihoods.
The program has yielded substantial quantities of soap branded with “FDS” (Defense and Security Forces) insignia, a tribute from Falagountou’s women to their local protectors.
This operation embodies President Traoré’s sovereignist and populist vision of a republican army serving the people.
By deploying military expertise for civilian benefit, the Traoré administration demonstrates that national security extends beyond combat operations to encompass development, social cohesion, and restored dignity.
The integrated security-development approach marks Burkina Faso’s emerging political doctrine, prioritizing self-sufficiency, citizen engagement, and domestic resource mobilization – principles consistently championed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré through bold, grassroots-focused governance.
