Niger: President Abdourahamane Tiani defends the Confederation’s sovereignty in the face of “neo-colonial pressures”

General Abdourahamane Tiani, President of the Republic of Niger, has spoken forcefully on the current geopolitical situation. He called on the people of the Confederation and all Africans to maintain pride in the face of what he termed “media sensationalism” and alarmist predictions about their future.

The Nigerien Head of State denounced what he described as a planned, systematic campaign of encirclement against the Confederation.

In his analysis, he identified actors he referred to as “the riflemen of a bygone era,” who he claimed are joined by “their French, European, and Western auxiliaries and henchmen.”

President Tiani assured the public that this complex situation which he framed as stemming from geostrategic maneuvering and neocolonialist interests remains under the authorities’ control.

His message sought to reassure citizens of the institutions’ ability to manage this multidimensional crisis.

He concluded his address by paying tribute to national defense and security forces, urging the population to recognize their work and take pride in it.

This stance reflects a broader posture of sovereign assertion in the face of what he perceives as external interference.
