Nigerian Star Alex Iwobi clarifies viral hotel video amid online backlash
Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has found himself at the center of a social media storm after a video he posted from the Super Eagles’ camp in Rabat was misinterpreted by fans.
The initial 10-second Snapchat clip, which showed a view of modest buildings from his window, was widely perceived as a complaint about the team’s accommodation ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against Gabon. This sparked criticism from fans who accused the player of being ungrateful.

However, the team’s media officer later clarified that the building in the video was not the squad’s official hotel, which is the more upscale Rive Hotel.
In a follow-up video, Iwobi defended his post, stating, “I never said one word.” He explained his expression was taken out of context and emphasized his comfort and focus on the upcoming match. “I’m comfy. I’m playing Mario Kart. Let me go and focus, I have a big game coming up,” he added.
The incident highlights the intense scrutiny facing players, but with clarifications made, the team’s attention now returns to the pitch as they prepare for their vital playoff fixture.
