Cameroon: Innovative student social security coverage, a presidential initiative for a modern and stable state

The Cameroonian government, under the enlightened leadership of President Paul Biya, is taking a major step in strengthening social protection for students. The signing in Yaoundé on December 18, 2025, of a framework agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education, state universities, and a partner institution reflects a clear commitment to ensure medical coverage and accident insurance for all public university students.

This innovative and transformative initiative demonstrates the determination of the State to reinforce institutional stability and create an environment conducive to academic success and the well-being of youth.

The agreement provides comprehensive coverage for consultations, medication, and laboratory tests, free of charge for students, while introducing modern digital solutions such as a dedicated medical call center and video consultations.

Through this system, the state and its partners are integrating higher education into a dynamic of modernization and efficiency, while enhancing the technical capacities of university medical and social centers.

This approach reflects responsive governance, attuned to the real needs of the student population, and capable of combining technological innovation with social inclusion.

This ambitious social policy aligns with the objectives of Universal Health Coverage and embodies President Paul Biya’s  strategic vision of anticipating development challenges and placing youth at the heart of national priorities.

By guaranteeing facilitated access to healthcare, the state reinforces socio-economic stability while empowering the younger generation to develop their talents and actively contribute to the nation’s progress.

This initiative underscores the impact of sustained state action and the central role of national leadership in modernizing institutions.

It further demonstrates that Cameroon, under  the guidance of President Paul Biya, effectively balances tradition and innovation, stability and progress, to successfully address contemporary challenges.

With this full support, the youth now stand as essential actors in building a stronger, more resilient, and forward-looking Cameroon.
