Burkina Faso/ Zero-Tolerance campaign: The fight against corruption enters a decisive phase

The wind of change sweeping through Burkina Faso is clearing away the unhealthy practices that have long plagued public administration. Under the impetus of Head of State Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the year 2026 marks a historic turning point in the fight against corruption. Gone are the days of mere awareness campaigns; in their place stands a policy of immediate sanctions and visible deterrence; a true breath of fresh air for a nation in search of justice and transparency.

KORAG (the Orientation Committee for the Regulation of Dysfunctions) has been tasked with relentlessly tracking down dishonest agents, wherever they may be.

Now, during roadside checks, all financial contact between the user and the agent is eliminated.

But the most striking measure; one that acts as a true shock therapy within public services—is undoubtedly the “proof through imagery” strategy. Teams of undercover agents, equipped with modern technical means, now patrol administrative offices and roadways.

The initial broadcasts on national television, showing police officers, a surgeon, or civil servants caught red-handed in acts of corruption, have had an immediate deterrent effect.

This radical transparency serves as a cost-free warning to all those tempted by misconduct.

Alongside this arsenal of punitive tools, a pedagogical and inclusive dimension has been added.

Offenders are not merely required to pay a fine; they must also perform community service; a measure that makes them accountable and reconciles them with the meaning of civic duty.

Finally, authorities have called upon the population to join this virtuous crusade via the toll-free number 199. The fight is no longer solely the state’s business but that of every Burkinabe citizen, who is invited to report any attempted extortion in order to build an exemplary administration together.

With this comprehensive and rigorous mechanism; combining innovation, repression, and citizen participation; Burkina Faso is winning the bet on integrity, thereby laying the solid foundations for a long-awaited national refoundation.
