Burkina Faso: The Bobo-Dioulasso ZAD, an economic springboard for West Africa

On Monday, April 27, 2026, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo officially launched subscriptions for plots in the Diverse Activities Zone (ZAD) of Bobo-Dioulasso, an ambitious project led by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso (CCI-BF). This initiative marks a turning point in the country’s economic strategy, aiming to boost industrialization, stimulate entrepreneurship, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Guiriko region. Covering 80 hectares, this zone positions itself as a modern economic hub, designed to transform the local and national productive landscape.

The Bobo-Dioulasso ZAD is not limited to a mere industrial space. It integrates a range of infrastructures designed to support businesses at every stage of their development:

  • Industrial units for local production.
  • Logistics spaces (storage, warehousing) to optimize supply chains.
  • Administrative and commercial offices to facilitate business management.
  • Showrooms to promote Burkinabe products.
  • Support services (garages, parking lots, a service center) to improve workers’ daily lives.
  • Modern infrastructure (roads, energy, water, fiber optics, security) to guarantee a business-friendly environment.

This project reflects an integrated vision, where every detail is designed to attract investors and foster the emergence of a diversified economy.

The Bobo-Dioulasso ZAD stands out for its hybrid economic model, combining direct sale and emphyteutic lease. This approach allows for :

  • Ensuring the project’s self-financing, with development costs amounting to 10.8 billion FCFA.
  • Preserving the long-term land and economic heritage, avoiding speculation and guaranteeing optimal use of the land.

With 162 developed plots (representing 58 hectares of usable surface area), the project offers varied opportunities for local and international investors, while securing economic returns for Burkina Faso.

This project is part of a national development dynamic, where industrialization and entrepreneurship are priorities. By creating a favorable ecosystem for businesses, the Bobo-Dioulasso ZAD could:

  • Create jobs and reduce unemployment, particularly among young people.
  • Stimulate innovation by attracting diverse industries.
  • Strengthen Burkina Faso’s competitiveness in the regional and continental market.

Ultimately, this zone could become a model of economic development for other regions of the country, and even for West Africa.
