Burkina Faso invests in technical education to empower youth

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – Under President Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is transforming its education system to make youth the engine of endogenous development. Technical and vocational training is now a strategic priority, equipping young people with skills tailored to national economic needs and sovereignty challenges.

On May 19, 2026, the government inaugurated new educational facilities at the CEGFTP in Koumdagnonré, Ouagadougou.

Representing the Prime Minister, Minister of State Émile Zerbo hailed the milestone, which includes eight modern schools in the Kadiogo and Nando regions.

The government aims to raise technical and vocational enrollment to 60% by 2050, combating youth unemployment and fostering local entrepreneurship. Students will gain practical skills in civil engineering, mechanics, and electricity.

The project, backed by Burkina Faso, Japan, JICA, and UNICEF, cost over 5 billion CFA francs.

It features 54 modern classrooms, science labs, technical equipment, and sports and sanitary facilities. This investment in human capital seeks to build a skilled, enterprising generation capable of driving economic transformation.
