Premier league secures record £6.7 Billion TV Rights Deal for 2025-26 Season
The Premier League announced on Monday a new television rights deal for the English championship, reaching a record amount of £6.7 billion (€7.8 billion) over a four-year period, starting from the 2025-26 season.
Compared to the current contract (2022-2025), which is already the highest among major national football leagues, estimated at £5 billion (€5.8 billion) over three years and including the broadcast of 200 matches, this new agreement maintains a relative stability in terms of television rights per season, increasing from an average of £1.66 billion (€1.94 billion) to £1.67 billion (€1.95 billion).
Notably, this future agreement foresees an increase in the number of broadcast matches, totaling nearly 270, with the unique feature that all matches on a championship day will be aired live, except for the Saturday 3:00 PM slot, reserved to encourage stadium attendance.
Sky Sports and TNT Sports successfully retained their live broadcasting rights, while Amazon, which held the rights to twenty matches per season in the previous contract, did not secure a lot this time.
Sky will broadcast at least 215 live matches per season, and BBC Sport will retain the rights to its flagship program, «Match of the Day», featuring highlights from each matchday.
Richard Masters, the Premier League’s chief executive, emphasized the league’s strength, praising the reputation of Sky Sports and TNT Sports for delivering world-class coverage.
He also highlighted record viewership and stadium attendance in recent seasons, expressing confidence in the broadcasters’ ability to sustain interest in the Premier League.
The debate over lifting the television broadcast ban at 3:00 PM is ongoing, especially concerning women’s matches.
