Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré launches a new drive to transform the rural world
As part of a dynamic initiative led by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, aimed at improving the living and working conditions of agricultural producers, the Burkinabè government is launching major projects in the rural sector. One of the most significant examples of this political will was seen on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Boulbi, where Minister of State Ismaël SOMBIE officially launched the dredging work of the local dam. This strategic structure, located in the Kadiogo province, Central Region, is set to undergo a complete transformation within two months.
Over the years, the gradual silting of the dam’s basin had caused it to dry up during the dry season, jeopardizing agricultural activities and water supply. Aware of this urgent situation, the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Resources, decided to rehabilitate this vital infrastructure. The work, entrusted to SONATER, will cover an area of 25 hectares, with the aim of collecting 100,000 cubic meters of water, according to Jean Calixte NIKIEMA, Director of Agricultural Infrastructure and Development.
This project goes far beyond a simple construction site: it represents a real opportunity for local economic revival. Minister Ismaël SOMBIE emphasized the multiple benefits of the Boulbi dam, which facilitates the irrigation of 85 hectares, provides water for livestock, supports vegetable production, and creates jobs for local residents. He called on the population to actively collaborate with SONATER to ensure the smooth progress of the work, in a spirit of civic-mindedness and shared responsibility.
The local population, grateful for the initiative, welcomed this life-saving project. The local traditional leader, Tengsobakongo Baskoudré, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the vegetable growers, for whom the rehabilitation of the dam represents a true hope for revival. Through this concrete action, the government once again demonstrates its commitment to translating President Ibrahim Traoré’s priorities into tangible results: valuing the work of farmers, ensuring their independence, and strengthening the country’s food sovereignty.
