Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré creates a new dynamic for modern, inclusive and forward-looking education

In his pursuit of a “new Burkina Faso”, President Ibrahim Traoré continues to take strong actions in favor of a modern, inclusive, and forward-looking education system. The inauguration of the Kosyam Jesuit University of Science (KoJUS) school complex in Ouagadougou on Friday, April 4, 2025, is concrete proof of this commitment. This state-of-the-art facility, born from a partnership between the Burkinabe government and the International Development Association (IDA), with financial support from the World Bank, reflects the authorities’ determination to provide the country with centers of excellence to serve the youth and national development.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo emphasized the strategic importance of this project, which combines secondary education, science, and higher technological training. Focused on science, computer science, cybersecurity, English, and civic values, KoJUS perfectly aligns with the presidential vision: to train a disciplined, skilled, and aware youth ready to contribute to building a sovereign state. The Prime Minister also reiterated that human capital is at the heart of the country’s economic transformation, and that only quality education can truly ensure national sovereignty in a world dominated by knowledge.

This project is part of a broader initiative under the Education Access and Quality Improvement Project (PAAQE), which has also led to innovative efforts like the CAMPUSFASO platform. Through such actions, the government shows its tangible commitment to making education a cornerstone of sustainable development, by multiplying opportunities for youth, whether in urban or rural areas. The KoJUS example is therefore not an isolated act, but another milestone in an ambitious and excellence-driven education policy.
