CAF to redraw U20 AFCON Groups after Tunisia replaces Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt named new hosts

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will re-conduct the group stage draw for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations following Tunisia’s late inclusion as a replacement for Côte d’Ivoire, who withdrew as both hosts and participants. Egypt has now been confirmed as the new tournament host, prompting adjustments to ensure they are placed in Group A.

Originally, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, and South Africa were drawn together in Group B, but the revised draw will reshuffle the groups. The competition kicks off on 27 April, with the final set for 18 May. The top four teams will secure spots in the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

Côte d’Ivoire’s abrupt exit denies their U20 team a chance to compete, as only hosts receive automatic qualification. Tunisia, taking their place, faces a tight timeline to prepare. CAF’s last-minute changes highlight ongoing challenges in organizing continental tournaments smoothly.
