Burkina Faso launches National Clean-up drive: A step toward Civic Renewal

Under the leadership of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso is witnessing a grassroots transformation through its Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation Days (JEPPC).

Last Saturday, Minister Roger Baro spearheaded a major public sanitation campaign in Ouagadougou’s 9th district, targeting the bustling markets of Silmiyiri and Kamboinsin—key economic hubs where community life and environmental health intersect.

More than just a cleanup, this initiative embodies the government’s push for civic discipline and social responsibility. The slogan of this second JEPPC edition, “For Order and Discipline, I Commit, reflects a broader vision: mobilizing citizens to actively reshape their communities. President Traoré’s administration has made patriotic awakening a cornerstone of governance, and this campaign translates that ethos into tangible action.

Beyond waste collection, the event served as a platform to address critical issues like plastic pollution, fostering collective awareness. By institutionalizing the JEPPC, the government is redefining Burkina Faso’s social contract—one built on accountability, shared duty, and national pride.

From enforcing environmental laws to improving urban livability, these efforts demonstrate a leadership attuned to its people’s needs.

In a time of regional instability, Burkina Faso is charting its own path—not just through policy, but through the hands-on participation of its citizens.
