Togo: The country accelerates the reform of technical training, guided by the vision of President Faure Gnassingbé

Under the leadership of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Togo is continuing the transformation of its technical and vocational training system. In this effort, the focus is now on modern teaching methods centered on positive discipline, with the aim of providing learners with an environment that fosters both personal and professional development. Since April 14, the city of Kara has been hosting a training session for 25 instructors from vocational training centers across the country. This program, centered on positive discipline, aims to promote supportive guidance—moving away from coercive methods—and instead focusing on mutual respect and the empowerment of young learners.

Initiated by the National Institute for Vocational Training and Development (INFPP), with support from German Cooperation through GIZ, this training provides participants with tools to create a safe, non-violent learning environment. Participants explore both the legal frameworks protecting young people and the psychosocial skills essential for respectful mentoring. The goal is to lay the foundation for a modern, humane, and effective pedagogy.

For Togolese authorities, this approach is part of a broader strategy to reform the technical and vocational education system. As emphasized by Kossi N’Guissan, Director of the INFPP, the goal is for each trainer to become a carrier of this vision within their center, and for each inspector to ensure rigorous follow-up in the field.
