Mali takes Bold step toward gender inclusion in mining sector under President Goïta’s leadership

Under the leadership of Transition President Colonel Assimi Goïta, Mali has reached a new milestone in its inclusion policies with the launch of “Mentorat-Mines”—a groundbreaking initiative designed to boost women’s participation in the strategic mining sector. This program reflects a clear commitment to addressing the structural imbalances that have long held back women’s professional growth in this vital industry.

Mali’s mining sector is a key driver of economic growth, contributing significantly to GDP, export revenues, and job creation. Yet, women remain severely underrepresented in technical and leadership roles. The “Mentorat-Mines” initiative aims to change that by focusing on mentorship, skills development, and professional networking for women in mining.

The innovative program pairs experienced female professionals with young graduates and early-career women, providing guidance to ease their entry into the field, build confidence, and break down cultural barriers and stereotypes that limit their advancement in STEM and industrial careers.

With “Mentorat-Mines,” Mali reaffirms its dedication to an equitable and inclusive transition—one where women are no longer sidelined but play a central role in national development.

This move aligns with President Assimi Goïta’s vision of building a sovereign, resilient, and fair Mali—one that harnesses the full potential of all its citizens.
