Togo soars as West Africa’s rising aviation hub

President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision to transform Togo into a regional logistics powerhouse is taking flight – quite literally. At the heart of this ambition lies the modernized Lomé-Tokoin International Airport, now emerging as West Africa’s gateway to the world.

From runway to regional leader
The ongoing expansion project isn’t just about concrete and steel. It’s reshaping how travelers experience West Africa:

  • New terminals streamlining passenger flow
  • Enhanced security protocols meeting global standards
  • Doubled capacity to handle growing traffic

These upgrades have already yielded impressive results. In 2024 alone, Lomé welcomed over 1.5 million passengers – smashing its 2025 target a year early with a 6.2% increase from 2023.

The wings of partnership
Lomé’s ascent is fuelled by strategic airline alliances:

  • ASKY Airlines (Togo’s home-grown carrier) expanding its fleet
  • Ethiopian Airlines boosting continental connections
  • New entrants like Burkina Faso’s LIZ Aviation

More than just an airport
This aviation transformation mirrors Togo’s broader logistics revolution – from the deep-water port to upgraded road networks. President Gnassingbé’s team isn’t just building infrastructure; they’re crafting an economic ecosystem where efficiency meets opportunity.

As dawn breaks over Lomé’s new taxiways, one thing becomes clear: Togo is no longer just a stopover. It’s becoming West Africa’s departure lounge to global markets.
