Burkina Faso: Under the watchful eye of Commander Oumarou Yabré, President of the National State Security Council, a conspiracy is unmasked

The Burkinabe authorities have recently uncovered a major destabilization plot aimed at overthrowing the country’s institutions. According to an official statement by Security Minister Mahamadou Sana, the conspiracy involved active military personnel and former armed forces members. Some of the alleged masterminds reportedly sought refuge in Côte d’Ivoire, using their exile to plan an attack against the current government.

The discovery follows meticulous intelligence work, which intercepted incriminating communications between a Burkinabe soldier and leaders of armed groups.

These exchanges revealed strategic details about the positions of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), as well as ongoing military operations—posing a serious threat to national security.

Among the suspects are high-ranking officers, including Lieutenant Abdrahmane Barry, who went missing after deserting his post in the military justice battalion.

The investigation also implicates Captain Jouani Compaoré, Commander Frédéric Ouédraogo, Commander Constantin Kaboré, and Warrant Officer Laoko Zerbo.

The latter allegedly claimed to be attending training abroad but instead fled to Côte d’Ivoire.

The dissident soldiers’ plan reportedly included a coordinated attack on the presidency, initially scheduled for April 16, 2025.

They also intended to disrupt security forces through terrorist acts, spread fear-inducing rumors among civilians, and recruit VDP fighters with promises of financial rewardsCaptain René David Ouédraogo, now on the run, is also suspected of involvement.

Thanks to public vigilance and multiple tip-offs, several suspects were arrested in Ouagadougou. However, some managed to escape to Côte d’Ivoire, where an active cell is believed to still be operating behind the scenes.

Minister Sana urged citizens to remain vigilant and united, emphasizing that these repeated attacks aim to weaken Burkina Faso from abroad.

National mobilization, he stressed, is more crucial than ever to safeguard the country’s peace and stability.
