Artistic Gymnastics: Biles noncommittal on LA 2028 after historic Paris Haul

Fresh off her triumphant three-gold performance in Paris, gymnastics legend Simone Biles remains undecided about competing in her home Olympics. The 28-year-old told L’Equipe she’ll attend Los Angeles 2028 — but may do so as a spectator rather than a competitor.

Right now, I need that fire to return,” said the record-tying four-time Laureus Sportswoman of the Year. Her Paris medals (team, all-around, vault) exorcised Tokyo’s “twisties” demons, but came at a physical cost: “My body collapsed afterward—I was sick for 10 days.”

The most decorated gymnast in history (37 combined Olympic/World medals) faces the reality of aging in a sport where most retire by 25. While acknowledging LA’s appeal, Biles noted, “2028 feels distant” and hinted at prioritizing health over legacy.

Analysts suggest her participation could hinge on rule changes allowing specialists to compete in select events—a format that might extend her career. For now, the GOAT’s next move remains gymnastics’ most tantalizing unanswered question.
