Diplomacy: Togo intensifies mediation efforts between DRC and Rwanda

As part of President Faure Gnassingbé’s ongoing mediation mission to resolve tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey held a working session with his Angolan counterpart, António Tété. This meeting follows President Gnassingbé’s recent diplomatic tour to Angola, underscoring Togo’s commitment to fostering regional stability.

Building on the Luanda process

President Gnassingbé aims to leverage the progress made under the Luanda Process while exploring new pathways for peaceful conflict resolution in eastern DRC.

His administration has ramped up high-level consultations, recently securing United Nations backing for Togo’s mediation efforts.

UN reaffirms support

During talks in Lomé, President Gnassingbé met with UN Special Envoy Huang Xia, reiterating Togo’s readiness to facilitate dialogue in the Great Lakes region.

Xia praised the Togolese leader’s dedication to peacebuilding and assured full UN support for the initiative.

This diplomatic push highlights Togo’s growing role as a neutral broker in one of Africa’s most complex conflicts, aligning regional and international stakeholders toward a sustainable resolution.
