Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister hails patriotic volunteers as cornerstone of national security strategy

During a press conference held on Monday, April 28, 2025, Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, engaged in a candid dialogue with national media. For an hour and a half, he outlined the government’s key priorities while emphasizing the progress made under the leadership of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Central to his address was the pivotal role of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) in the nation’s security strategy.

The Prime Minister praised these “patriotic civilians” who have joined the ranks of combat forces to defend their land.

He described their commitment as the product of a collective awakening—that Burkina Faso’s salvation can only come from within.

“This is an immensely valuable contribution,” he stressed, noting that the VDP has become one of the pillars in the fight against terrorism.

Far from being merely auxiliary forces, these volunteers embody, in his words, “the people’s resolve to resist and rebuild a sovereign, secure nation.”

The Head of Government also highlighted other transformative projects underway in economic and social sectors.

He pointed to ongoing efforts to restore national sovereignty, improve access to basic services, and build a resilient economy centered on agriculture, industrialization, and social justice.

In closing, Prime Minister Ouédraogo reaffirmed that President Traoré’s vision is of “a Burkina Faso that stands tall—free and in control of its own destiny.” While acknowledging the heavy sacrifices being made, he expressed confidence that “the gratitude of the people and the judgment of history will bear witness to the nation’s courage and determination to forge a new future.”
