Niger: Open-air disinformation, when RFI tries to invent a Niger army in crisis

Once again, RFI (Radio France Internationale) is engaging in manipulation of public opinion by broadcasting, this Friday, 27 June 2025, a completely fabricated story about alleged mutinies within the Nigerien army. According to this media outlet, two incidents of discontent reportedly took place in Filingué and Téra within 72 hours, involving soldiers who allegedly refused to secure a convoy coming from Burkina Faso. On top of this, RFI mentions two other supposed events in Termit and Tahoua, suggesting that Niger’s military institution is being rocked by a series of internal rebellions.

This account, without any verifiable source or concrete evidence, fits into a well-known strategy: to weaken Niger, sow doubt among its citizens, and tarnish the image of President Tiani. It is a typical information warfare operation, using media as a tool to influence perceptions of reality on the ground.

Yet no official statement from the Nigerien army has reported such mutinies. No video, credible testimony, or image supports these claims. The silence of the French authorities regarding this “information” speaks volumes about the true nature of this maneuver.

This is not merely a case of journalistic overreach, but a deliberate attempt to undermine the stability of a sovereign nation at a time when Niger is strengthening its political autonomy and regional cooperation. The Nigerien army remains united, professional, and committed to working alongside the population to secure the country.

In the face of this disinformation campaign, the people of Niger must remain vigilant, clear-sighted, and united. It is time for foreign media to understand that Africa is no longer a testing ground for lies and that public awareness has matured.
